Wolves,

This week is Pack Meeting and Sister Jeffery has lots of fun stuff planned so don’t be late!! We get to do our skit that we practiced a few weeks ago and get ready to shout out our Den Yell:

We are Wolves, yes we are! We are the Wolves, the best by far!!

You boys did a lot of activities in July and you have earned the following:
Astronomy Belt Loop $1.49
Archery Belt Loop 1.49
BB Gun Belt Loop 1.49
total $4.47

Make sure you or your parents get this money to me before Pack Meeting so you don’t miss out on the awards. Make sure to let me know whenever you complete any patch or belt loop requirements so that you can get your award.

Don’t forget about the Highland Fling. Any activity that you participate in completes your Hometown Discovery Patch requirements. You could also receive the Highland City Patch. The Flag Raising Ceremony is at 7:00am and if you are planning on participating you need to be at the flag pole at 6:45am. The parade begins at 10:00am and if you would like to be in it, you need to be at Highland Elementary at 9:30am. You need to be in uniform for both of these activities. If you have any questions you can call Michael Sharp 492-0305, this is for his Eagle Scout Project.

Wolf Den 952 visits Highland City Fire Department

Our boys had a wonderful tour through our local fire house. Not only did they get to check out the fire trucks and the ambulance, but Randy, our fire fighter guide took them to all the places no one else gets to see. They saw where the fire fighters sleep, where they work out, where they cook and eat, and where they watch t.v. not to mention "the pole". The Wolves were very well behaved and even left the department with a den yell.

This was a check off in their handbooks (9C) and also goes towards our Hometown Discovery Patch, which we also worked on while we slurped down our Frosty's. Check out the link to see if you have completed any of the other requirements.

The invitation to participate in the Highland Fling flag raising ceremony also includes an invitation to participate in the Highland Fling parade. There is a Boy Scout who is doing this activity to earn his Eagle Scout and would like as many Scouts as possible to be involved. I asked the boys if they wanted to go and they said "yes" then "no" then "yes". I will be at the flag raising ceremony and at the parade with my children. If your boys decide to go, I can give you any information that you need.

Our Wolf Den party is scheduled for this Wednesday (7/23) at 1:00pm. The boys will check off their last requirment for Cooking & Eating (8E-cook an outdoor meal) and have some fun checking off some electives. We have been talking about it all month and they are very excited. I will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, condiments and drinks. Brother Price will be here as well and will be bringing the watermelon. Have your boys come in clothes that they can get wet and bring a towel. Please have your boys bring their favorite snack. I am guessing this den meeting will go a little longer, if that's okay.

July activities update

Hey Scout Parents,

We had so much fun at Scout Camp.... check out our new blog http://wolfden952.blogspot.com/(this is new to me so be patient as I learn)

Next Wednesday we go to the Highland City Fire Department at 11:00. If you haven't given me a signed permission slip, please make sure I get it before we go.

I am planning on taking Sam to participate in the Flag Raising Ceremony for the start of our Highland Fling. I know the Boy Scouts putting this on would like some more participation. It is at 7:00 am on Saturday August 2nd. This counts towards the requirement in their handbooks and would also count towards a Highland City Patch

Cub Scout Day Camp 2008

Cub Scout Day Camp
What an amazing, fun day for these boys!! The Wolf den and the Bear den went up to Camp Jeremiah Johnson together for a day full of outdoor fun!

Cook's Companions
This is the name of our group of boys that followed our guide from station to
station.

Opening Ceremony
We were a little late getting there so we only caught the tail end....
the boys all running to their first activity

Siege at Sling Shot Slope
Each of our boys got a short lesson in sling shot saftey then... "fire away"
A line of boys aimed across a small creek at a slew of cans and pans and anything that made that "tink" noise when hit.

Raingutter Regatta
The boys got to try their hands at ship building. A block of wood with a mast
and paper sail. Then the fun began. The camp had two raingutters filled with
water, lined up side by side about 2 feet apart and 20 feet long. The boys all
lined up two by, placed their boat in the water and bleeew, racing their boat to the other end of the raingutter. Then back in line they went 'cause they had to do it again.... and again.

Swordsmith Shoppe
After a quick review of basic tools the boys put together their own swords and
were sent off to battle. The whole mass of boys chasing and tagging each
other with their foam sword for the right to be the last man standing.

Arhcery Adventures
Real bows and arrows shot at a target. The boys, again, got a lesson in
saftey and use then a chance to aim and fire. This was followed by a quick
lesson in how to tie knots.

Lunch
Is anybody hungry??? Not really these boys were just getting started and
barley sat down long enough to eat some food. Enough time was left for
them to trek over to the Trading Post and spend all the money they brought
on "treasure".

BB Gun Buccaneers

Next we hit the shooting range. BB guns and goggles all lined up for these very ready little guys. They listened, followed directions and some even hit a few of the targets. Then a game of tag blew off some of their extra energy.

Follow the Stars

Our last stop was a lesson in the stars. Us leaders got to take a break in the shade while the older kids taught our boys a little bit about reading the night sky and naming the planets.

Closing Ceremony

A fun sing-a-long, a patriotic salute while the flag was lowered, and a heart felt thank you from our boys ended this incredible trip.

Sister Bement and I got to watch all of these boys have a really fun day and we are both so glad they all got to come and that we got to come with them. They were all very well behaved and were complimented several times by other leaders.

Check out these awards, any activity that your son participates in can help him earn these awards and others. September will be a fun month for our Wolves. A hike on a Highland Trail and a service project for keeping it clean will hopefully fulfill our requirements for these two patches.
